Examples of Coded Dreams

In order to illustrate how the Hall/Van de Castle system of dream content analysis is used in actual practice, we have included in our site some dream reports which have already been coded.

Of course, you will probably want to read all about the coding system before delving further into this section.

12-13 Year-Old Girls

These twenty dreams are from twenty 12- and 13-year-old girls in California. The on-line versions of these coding cards are interesting because sections of the dream reports are highlighted when you move your mouse pointer over the codings.

 

The Brush Salesman

These are the same ten dreams that appear in Appendix B of Bill Domhoff's book, Finding Meaning In Dreams. We've included not only the codings, but also a detailed discussion of the coding process for each dream.
